NDC MEETS THE GHANA LEAGUE CLUBS ASSOCIATION (GHALCA) ON MODALITIES TO PAY PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYERS

The National Democratic Congress recently launched its manifesto for the 2024 general elections. A key component of the manifesto which has attracted public attention is the sports component. While the party has 10 key manifesto promises for sports development, one that has caught the attention of many stakeholders is the pledge to augment the salaries of premier league players with allowances.

In bids to ensure a seamless implementation of this policy when the party wins’ power, a meeting with the Ghana Leagues Club Association was held today to discuss feasible modalities to implement the promises to the benefit of the players in bids to improve the quality of the premier league. The delegation of GHALCA was led by the association’s President, Mr. Cudjoe Fianoo. The NDC on the other hand was led by Professor Joshua Alabi, Chairman of the sports thematic committee of the manifesto.

The meeting is a sign of commitment of the NDC to implementing the tenets of the sports manifesto which aims to enhance sports development in the country. The flagbearer of the NDC recognizes the potential of sports for Ghana’s development and has pledged prioritisation of the sector to achieve the promises. The commitment to developing the sector is further evidenced in the decoupling of the sector from the youth ministry in the current manifesto document.
