National Peace Council Optimistic About Resolving NDC-EC Dispute Over Voter’s Register, Says Chairman

The National Peace Council has expressed optimism about resolving the ongoing impasse between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission (EC) concerning the credibility of the voter register.

This dispute has raised concerns about the integrity of the upcoming elections and the potential for unrest if not addressed promptly.

Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, conveyed his confidence in finding common ground between the two parties within the week.

“We are actively engaging both the NDC and the EC to facilitate constructive dialogue. It is crucial for the health of our democracy that we resolve these differences amicably,” he stated.

The issue centers around allegations by the NDC regarding discrepancies in the voter register, which they claim could undermine the fairness of the electoral process.

The party has expressed concerns that inaccuracies in the register might disenfranchise eligible voters, thereby skewing the results in favor of certain political interests.

This has prompted calls for immediate action to address these concerns before the upcoming elections.

In light of the situation, the National Peace Council is taking a proactive role in mediating discussions between the NDC and the EC. Rev. Dr. Adu Gyamfi emphasized the importance of open communication and transparency in restoring confidence in the electoral process.

“We believe that through dialogue, we can clarify misunderstandings and work towards solutions that uphold the integrity of our electoral system,” he remarked.

The Peace Council has also highlighted the need for all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the media, to participate in fostering an environment of trust and cooperation.

Rev. Dr. Adu Gyamfi underscored that the credibility of the voter register is fundamental not only to the elections but also to the overall stability of the country. “

A credible electoral process is vital for ensuring that the will of the people is accurately reflected in the outcome of the elections,” he added.

As the timeline for the elections approaches, the National Peace Council is calling for urgency in addressing the concerns raised by the NDC while also ensuring that the Electoral Commission can operate effectively.

They are committed to facilitating a peaceful resolution that aligns with democratic principles and the rule of law.

The success of these negotiations will be closely watched by the public, as the stakes are high for all parties involved. The National Peace Council remains hopeful that, through collaboration and dialogue, a solution can be reached that satisfies all stakeholders and reinforces the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
