National Education Forum Reviews Teacher Trainee Allowance Amid Reform Efforts
The National Education Forum Committee has commenced a comprehensive review of the controversial Teacher Trainee Allowance as part of a broader initiative to reform Ghana’s pre-tertiary education sector.
The review process aims to assess the sustainability, impact, and future of the allowance in the context of improving education policies and teacher training.
This development comes just days after the Ministry of Education dismissed reports suggesting that the allowance was set to be scrapped.
Despite the ministry’s assurances, the ongoing review signals a potential shift in policy, sparking renewed debate among stakeholders in the education sector.
Chairman of the forum, Professor George K.T. Oduro, confirmed that the committee will engage in an open and transparent debate on whether to maintain, modify, or discontinue the allowance.
He emphasized that the review process will be guided by extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including teacher trainees, education experts, policymakers, and financial analysts.
