National Education Forum Kicks Off Today with Nationwide Stakeholder Engagements

The much-anticipated National Education Forum begins today, Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with a series of zonal engagements across Ghana to solicit input from stakeholders on the future of the country’s education system.

The forum, spearheaded by an eight-member Planning Committee, will culminate in a two-day validation conference scheduled for February 27 and 28 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). This conference aims to consolidate ideas and proposals gathered during the zonal engagements into a comprehensive action plan for Ghana’s education sector.

To ensure maximum participation, the country has been divided into three zones—northern, middle, and southern—each of the hosting region-specific consultations. The first zonal engagement begins today in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, bringing together stakeholders from the Volta and Oti regions.

On February 21, consultations will take place simultaneously in Accra, covering the Greater Accra and Eastern regions and in Cape Coast, for stakeholders from the Western and Central regions.

The Upper East and North East regions will converge in Bolgatanga, while Sunyani will host participants from the Western North, Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions on February 24.

Engagements for the Upper West, Savannah, and Northern regions are scheduled for February 25 in Tamale. The Ashanti Region, being one of the largest educational hubs, will hold its own session in Kumasi on February 26.

These discussions are designed to foster inclusive dialogue among key players, including educators, policymakers, students, parents, and civil society organizations. Their collective insights will help shape reforms to address pressing challenges in Ghana’s education system, such as access, equity, quality, and relevance to national development goals.

The final validation conference in Accra will serve as a platform to refine recommendations and chart a clear roadmap for the sector’s future. As the forum unfolds, it underscores the government’s commitment to an inclusive and participatory approach to educational development, ensuring no region or stakeholder is left behind.

The outcomes of this initiative are expected to drive transformational changes in the education landscape, equipping Ghanaian learners with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
