“NAPO’s Unveiling as NPP Running Mate Falls Short in Ashanti Region-Ako Gun

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strategy to present their running mate alongside the flag bearer has not generated the anticipated resonance. The unveiling, held in the party’s stronghold in the Ashanti region, fell short of expectations in terms of crowd support and enthusiasm.

Ako Gun, Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), shared his views on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. Gun expressed skepticism about the significance of the running mate’s role, suggesting that the attention placed on it may be exaggerated.

He contrasted this with the pedigree of the NDC’s running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, highlighting her achievements as the first female Vice-Chancellor of a Ghanaian state university and her tenure as Minister of Education under President John Mahama. Gun emphasized her contributions to girl child education and inclusive education policies during her ministerial tenure.

In a separate development, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II offered advice to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, during the NPP’s formal presentation of him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The Asantehene urged NAPO to uphold the trust placed in him by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flag bearer, and to avoid actions that could lead to regrets.

Addressing rumors of NAPO’s alleged disobedience and arrogance, the Asantehene encouraged him to remain obedient and dedicated to his political partner, Dr. Bawumia. He expressed surprise at accusations of arrogance, recalling NAPO’s earlier conduct during his training.

“I have advised him in private, but let me reiterate here: ensure Dr. Bawumia does not regret choosing you as his running mate. Serve him faithfully and with humility. Address any concerns through private discussions,” the Asantehene stated.
