Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, a political analyst and lecturer at Cape Coast University, has stated that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was not the preferred choice for the NPP’s running mate in the upcoming December elections.
This comment followed reports suggesting Dr. Bawumia had named Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh his running mate.
According to sources, Dr. Bawumia met with President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday night to seek advice regarding his running mate choice.
This decision has led to intense debate within the party, with many members questioning whether Dr. Opoku Prempeh is suitable for the role.
In an interview with Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Nana Dogbe on Friday, June 28, Dr. Asante Otchere claimed that Dr. Bawumia was pressured into accepting Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is currently the Energy Minister, as his running mate. Dr. Asante Otchere expressed concerns about Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s perceived arrogance.
He also reiterated his earlier assertion that Dr. Bawumia would not be able to make his own decision regarding his running mate.
Dr. Asante Otchere questioned why Dr. Bawumia was not given the freedom to choose his running mate, unlike previous NPP leaders such as former President Akufo-Addo, who had the discretion to make their selections.
