Celebrated musician, James Nana Tuffour, maker of hits like, Abeeku, Vida, Tontonte among others is no more.
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 FM’s Adekye Mu Nsem with Citizen Kofi, acting MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons confirmed the passing of higlife crooner, Nana Tuffour this morning.
The Kumasi based musician came to the limelight in the seventies with the legendary Alex Konadu’s band.
Subsequently he played with Wantu Wazuri and eventually led the Waza Africo band before joining the Agege train to play with Juju music icon, King Sunny Ade. Nana also plied his trade in Germany for awhile.
His debut album, Highlife Romance came out in 1979 and over the years, he has released over fifteen albums including, Abeiku, Tontonte, Genesis, The Best of Nana Tuffour, Daasebre, Hilife – Storm, Sankofa, Mega Vibes and Highlife Classics.
A colleague from the Waza Africo days, Jojo Boateng had this to say, “Nana was such a fine gentleman and a respectable leader.”
Nana Tuffour contested the MUSIGA Presidency in 2011 and placed second to Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour. He later became vice chairman of GHAMRO under music maestro Kojo Antwi.
Nana Tuffour was born on Valentine’s Day in 1954.
