Accra FM presenter Abdul Karim, popularly known as Nana Romeo, has filed a defamation lawsuit against entertainment pundit Sally Frimpong Mann and three others.
He is demanding GH₵1 million in damages for what he claims are malicious and reckless statements that have harmed his reputation.
Case Details
The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of Justice, accuses Sally Mann of making defamatory remarks about Nana Romeo, which were further shared by Clement Asamoah, one of the defendants, on social media.
According to Nana Romeo’s statement of claim, the allegations made against him were not only false but also lacked any factual basis. He argues that the remarks have significantly damaged his reputation, which he has carefully built over the years as a respected broadcaster.
The plaintiff also emphasized his industry recognition, including winning the Best Male Radio Host award at the 2021 Time Ghana Arts and Entertainment Awards and serving as a board member of the Ohio African Community Excellence Awards, USA.
Reliefs Sought
Nana Romeo’s legal team, led by Samuel Kissiedu, Esq., is seeking the following from the court:
1. A declaration that the statements made by the defendants are defamatory.
2. A retraction and unqualified apology, to be published in the Daily Graphic and on all social media platforms.
3. General damages amounting to GH₵1,000,000 for defamation.
4. Aggravated damages for the intentional and reckless nature of the defamatory remarks.
5. An injunction to prevent the defendants from making further defamatory statements about Nana Romeo.
This case highlights the growing tension between media personalities and the legal consequences of public statements, especially in the digital age.
