Nana Addo’s Roads Achievements in Tamale are Exaggerated -Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, Minister-designate of Roads and Highways

Deputy Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has challenged claims that the immediate past administration of President Nana Akufo-Addo constructed a significant portion of Tamale’s roads.

Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee, Suhuyini acknowledged that the previous government had undertaken some road projects in Tamale, but he insisted that much more remains undone.

“It is debatable to say that the previous government did a chunk of roads in Tamale. They did some roads—that is not in doubt—just like many other governments have done in the past. However, a lot more is left unfinished,” he stated.

Hon. Suhuyini emphasized that the issue of inadequate road infrastructure is not unique to the Sagnarigu Municipality, which includes Tamale North, but is a nationwide concern.

He pointed out that Ghana’s road network remains largely underdeveloped, citing figures from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

“The briefing I have received from the Ministry shows that we have about 134,000 kilometers of roads across the country. Out of this, approximately 72% are unpaved. So, it is not surprising that Members of Parliament frequently raise concerns about roads in their constituencies,” he explained.

Hon. Nominee expressed confidence in the leadership of his minister, assuring Ghanaians that the government is committed to leveraging resources to improve the country’s road infrastructure.

“I have no doubt in the commitment and hard work of my minister. We will maximize available resources to fix as many roads as possible,” he assured.
