The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says, the President, Nana Addo is still looking forward for the 2020 election and not measures to deal with the spread of covid-19.
Johnson in an interview on Ahotor 92.3 fm said the President’s promise of 88 hospitals is not in any budget, neither has Parliament approved a budget for that.
‘’The president has a divided attention, he is looking at the election and at the same time fighting covid-19, anytime he address the Nation he does politics but still says we should not do politics with covid.’’ He said
‘’If the president is going to build 88 hospitals for the sake of covid 19 we will all be dead by the time the hospitals is completed.’’ He said
Parliament has to approve anything of the president before he can do it, and the 2020 budget has already been approved and there was nothing indicating building of 88 hospitals unless the president has another budget which parliament would approve.‘
Mr Nketia said, government mentioned that this year is year of roads but due to the virus all this projects have been suspended, revenue has also reduced so there is no way the president can do what he is saying, unless he wants to do this in his next term of ruling, and even with that he has already lost it .
He also added that, the things the president said were of the former President Mahama’s policy which includes the Bank of Ghana hospital that was built by Mahama and now is being used, and desalination water plant that was closed by the president is now serving Ghanaians as free water.
Mr. Johnson further on said the president should concentrate on providing personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the health personnel’s and not to campaign.
