The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of a Syrian national in Lebanon following an alleged attempt to smuggle approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine from Ghana.
The suspect was arrested at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after arriving from Accra with the suspected narcotic substance concealed in two pieces of luggage.
In a statement issued on November 1, 2026, NACOC said it was working to identify and arrest other individuals suspected of being involved in the shipment in Ghana.
The Commission said the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.
According to NACOC, the operation was designed to identify and apprehend suspects at both ends of the drug supply chain while gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider transnational criminal network behind the shipment.
The Commission described the operation as an example of the importance of international cooperation and intelligence-sharing in combating drug trafficking.
It further reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with Lebanon and other international partners to disrupt cross-border drug trafficking networks and bring those involved to justice.
