The National Security Special Operations Department, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of supplying and dealing in illicit drugs at Weija in the Ga South Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.
The suspect, identified as Jibreel Hardi, was arrested on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at about 11 a.m. during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the joint team.
According to the authorities, the operation followed sustained intelligence gathering by undercover operatives of the Special Operations Department over an extended period. The intelligence reportedly led the team to the suspect, who was intercepted while allegedly on his way to meet a prospective buyer.
The authorities said the suspect, during his initial interaction with investigators, indicated that he was on his way to meet a buyer.
A search of the vehicle in which Jibreel Hardi was travelling led to the discovery of large quantities of dried leaves wrapped in polythene, suspected to be cannabis, popularly known as Indian hemp. Packets of Tramadol were also found in the vehicle.
Following the discovery, the joint team proceeded to the suspect’s residence as part of the operation. A further search of the house resulted in the retrieval of additional quantities of the suspected cannabis and Tramadol.
The search also led to the discovery of a firearm and 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition at the residence, adding another dimension to the ongoing investigation into the activities of the suspect.
The suspect’s wife, 42-year-old Abiba Fatawu, was also arrested at the residence. She is suspected of being an accomplice and collaborator in connection with the activities uncovered during the surveillance and subsequent operation.
The arrests followed what the authorities described as a carefully planned intelligence-led operation rather than a routine patrol or random search, with undercover operatives gathering information on the suspect over a period of time before the arrest was carried out.
Both suspects have since been conveyed to the NACOC Headquarters for processing. The exhibits retrieved from the vehicle and residence have also been secured and are being subjected to forensic examination to establish their exact nature and composition.
Investigations are continuing as authorities work to determine the source of the suspected drugs, the intended recipients and whether other individuals may be connected to the suspected drug supply network.
