‘My level is not to be a clearing agent’ – Mahama replies Akufo-Addo

John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded to remarks by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who described him as a “one-term president.”

Akufo-Addo’s comments came amidst heightened political tensions, with Mahama declining to debate the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking at a governance forum in Accra, Mahama reaffirmed his achievements and commitment to Ghana’s progress, emphasizing that his impact transcends the length of his tenure.

He dismissed the notion of being “levelled” by a single term, noting, “I know my level. If someone says I have no level because I served only one time, I know my level is definitely not to be a clearing agent.”

Mahama highlighted his dedication to good governance and pledged to strengthen structures that promote accountability.

“This is not a quest for witch hunting, but it is a genuine desire by Ghanaians to see public officers held to account for the public trust that was placed in them. Fighting corruption requires courage and principle. I will ensure meritorious appointments and allow the systems of transparency and accountability and fated space to work.
