My leadership will benefit all sports not football alone – Sports and Recreation Minister insists
The newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon Kofi Adams, has pledged to ensure equitable development across all sporting disciplines in Ghana, moving beyond the traditional focus on football. Recognizing football’s prominence, Adams emphasized the necessity of supporting various sports to foster holistic growth within the nation’s athletic community.
In an interview, Adams stated, “Sports is not football; sports is not Black Stars. Sports go beyond football and football should go beyond Black Stars.” He further elaborated on his commitment to other sports, acknowledging the need for balanced attention and resources.
Adams also highlighted the importance of grassroots development, aiming to nurture young talents across diverse disciplines. He believes that by investing in various sports at the foundational level, Ghana can achieve comprehensive progress in its sporting endeavors.
To address existing challenges, Adams plans to implement an Olympic Cycle Funding system, designed to provide financial support to underfunded sports. This initiative aims to create a more equitable environment, allowing all sports to thrive and compete on a level playing field.
Additionally, Adams underscored the significance of maintaining and upgrading sports infrastructure. He advocates for proper maintenance to ensure facilities remain in optimal condition, benefiting both current athletes and future generations.
As he assumes his role, Adams’s inclusive approach signals a transformative period for Ghanaian sports, with the potential to elevate the nation’s presence across various international sporting platforms.
