Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, also known as Daddy Bosco, the Director of Communications and Special Projects for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has emphasized that the union is inclusive and open to everyone involved in the music industry.
MUSIGA, established in 1975, is gearing up to celebrate its 50th anniversary in March 2025, with a launch event held at the Accra Tourism Information Centre on November 7, 2024.
During a discussion on Channel One TV’s ‘The Chat,’ Daddy Bosco addressed the question of who qualifies as a member, stating, “MUSIGA is for everyone in the music value chain… It’s important to note that musicians cannot operate in isolation; they rely on their managers, songwriters, and publicists.
Therefore, anyone engaged in a music-related activity is eligible to join.” He elaborated, “If your work involves music production, you can join. However, if you are simply a fan or listener, you might consider joining as a patron or in a different capacity.”
Daddy Bosco also pointed out that business owners wishing to collaborate with MUSIGA can become associate members, citing the example of Reagan, a former manager for the late Terry Bonchaka, who is now a music publicist and is eligible to join the union.
