MUSIGA Kicks Off Ghana Music Month with a Call to Celebrate Local Talent

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has officially announced the commencement of Ghana Music Month this March, starting next week.

The celebration aims to spotlight and promote Ghanaian music, urging media houses across the country to prioritize local content throughout the month.

Speaking on Ahotor Mmre with Obaapa Janee today, the President of MUSIGA emphasized the importance of celebrating and supporting homegrown talent.

“Let’s celebrate our own!” he passionately declared, calling on Ghanaians to take pride in the country’s rich musical heritage.”

As part of this initiative, MUSIGA has written a formal letter to the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), requesting all media houses—radio, TV, and online platforms—to dedicate more airtime to Ghanaian music.

The letter highlights the need for increased support for local artists, both emerging and established, to strengthen the industry and showcase the nation’s diverse sounds.

Ghana Music Month is expected to feature various events, including live performances, panel discussions, and social media campaigns to promote the contributions of Ghanaian musicians to the global stage. The movement also encourages DJs, event organizers, and music lovers to push Ghanaian music to the forefront.

With this call to action, all eyes are now on GIBA and media houses to respond positively and embrace the challenge. Will radio stations and TV networks turn up the volume on Ghanaian music? The nation waits to see the impact of this initiative.

GIBA is the umbrella body for all privately-owned and operational radio and television broadcast organisations in Ghana who have been duly authorized by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

Its major responsibilities are to carry out advocacy and ensure the orderly development of independent broadcasting nationally, while defending the private broadcaster against vested interests and meeting the training needs of members.

Happy Ghana Music Month!
