Musicians, Corporate Bodies Should Support Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary – Awingobit

The Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Sampson Asaki Awingobit, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to organize a grand public celebration for Ghana’s upcoming 70th Independence Anniversary.

According to him, by this time next year Ghana will mark 70 years since gaining independence, and the milestone should be celebrated in a way that allows the majority of citizens to actively participate.

Mr. Awingobit therefore appealed to the President to move the national celebration from the Jubilee House to the much larger Independence Square so that more Ghanaians can witness and enjoy the historic occasion.

He further proposed that some of Ghana’s top gospel and secular musicians be invited to perform to make the celebration memorable. Among the artistes he mentioned were Selina Boateng, Nacee, Akosua Agyapong, Amakye Dede, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and Sarkodie.

He noted that their performances would bring excitement and unity, allowing Ghanaians to celebrate together and “dance to the glory of God” while marking the nation’s historic achievement.

Mr. Awingobit emphasized that such a celebration is significant because many citizens may not live to witness another major milestone like the 70th independence anniversary.

He also suggested that the government should engage corporate institutions, including banks, insurance companies, private organizations, and individuals, to support the event financially.

According to him, this approach would ensure that the celebration is well organized without placing a financial burden on the government’s coffers, while at the same time giving corporate Ghana the opportunity to contribute to a historic national event.
