The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tain and Deputy Ranking Member on the Budget Committee, who also serves on the Parliamentary Committee for Information and Communication, has emphasized the need for all legislators to uphold the rule of law at all times.
Speaking on Adekyee Mu Nsem, a morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra, the MP stressed that Members of Parliament must consistently exhibit leadership and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
He stated that it was time for all members of the House to operate strictly within the framework of the law, reminding them that “no one is above the law.” He further noted that the Speaker of Parliament continues to advise members to ensure that even their activities outside the chamber are conducted within legal boundaries.
His comments come in the wake of a court directive involving the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, who has been barred from leaving the Greater Accra Region without notifying investigators. The restriction forms part of his bail conditions following his alleged involvement in the Hwidiem galamsey clash.
Hon. Addo faces provisional charges of assault on a public officer, unlawful damage, and rioting with weapons. He was arraigned on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, and granted bail of GH¢150,000. The court also ordered him to report to investigators once every two weeks until the directive is lifted or the trial begins.
Additionally, the court cautioned him against engaging in any conduct that could obstruct the ongoing investigation.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Alex Odonkor, the case has gained national attention and is now being handled by the CID Headquarters. The prosecution further argued that the MP’s influence could interfere with investigations, citing videos circulating on social media that allegedly depict scenes from the incident. They also expressed concern that he might attempt to tamper with witnesses or evidence.
