MP Escalates Krowor Water Crisis to Cabinet: President Mahama Directs Urgent Revival of Hydration Plant

As the water supply crisis grips Krowor Municipal Assembly and surrounding areas, the local Member of Parliament has taken decisive action by tabling the issue at the highest levels of government. In the long term, this advocacy has prompted a robust response, with Cabinet holding firm on commitments to resolve the shortages plaguing over 150,000 residents in Nungua and beyond.

President John Dramani Mahama has issued direct directives to the Minister for Works and Housing and Water Resources, instructing them to collaborate closely. Work together with the Ministry of Finance to secure the resources needed, the President emphasized, targeting the reactivation of the key hydration (desalination) plant.

The move promises relief not just for Krowor but for a wider corridor including parts of Tema West, Ashaiman, and Spintex. These areas, home to dense populations and industries, have faced intermittent disruptions residents queuing for tankers, businesses halting operations, and health concerns mounting from reliance on unregulated sources. “Once the plant comes back online, we’ll ensure regular, reliable water supply across the region, Hon. Ing.Paul Afotey  confirmed, highlighting the President’s hands-on approach.

This high-level intervention builds on local efforts by Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ing. Paul Afotey Quaye, who has deployed tankers and pushed for storage repairs. The MP’s escalation to Cabinet underscores a coordinated strategy: immediate aid meets strategic fixes. Finance Ministry involvement signals funding allocation for plant repairs, pipeline upgrades, and maintenance to prevent future breakdowns.
