Morocco Ban Alcohol Among Others for Africa Cup of Nations Match Venues

As the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 approaches its opening match on December 21—where hosts Morocco will face Comoros in Rabat—the Confederation of African Football (CAF), in close collaboration with the Local Organising Committee (LOC), has issued a strict and comprehensive set of guidelines on prohibited items across all tournament venues.

These measures are designed to prioritize spectator safety, maintain fair play on the pitch, and create a family-friendly atmosphere that aligns with both international standards and Moroccan laws and cultural norms.

Particular emphasis has been placed on banning alcohol and laser pointers. The sale and consumption of alcohol are completely prohibited inside and around the six host stadiums, with the restriction extending to any glass bottles, cans, or similar containers that could pose risks in crowded settings.

This policy reflects Morocco’s national regulations while ensuring a secure environment for the thousands of fans expected to attend.

Similarly, laser pointers have been outlawed with zero tolerance, following repeated incidents in African football where such devices were used to distract players—especially goalkeepers—during critical moments, compromising both safety and the integrity of the game.

Other prohibited items include weapons, sharp objects, fireworks, flares, explosives, pyrotechnics, illegal substances, large bags, professional cameras with detachable lenses, umbrellas, oversized flags or banners that obstruct views, excessively loud instruments like vuvuzelas or trumpets, and any materials bearing political, religious, or offensive messages.

Fans are also barred from bringing in food, cigarettes, gas sprays, or flammable objects. Security personnel across the host cities have received specialized training to enforce these rules uniformly, and violations could result in item confiscation, denied entry, or further consequences.

With stars like Mohamed Salah, Victor Osimhen, and Achraf Hakimi set to shine, organizers are determined to keep the spotlight on the football, delivering a festive yet orderly celebration of Africa’s premier tournament from December 21, 2025, through the final on January 18, 2026.

Supporters are encouraged to travel light and review the full guidelines to ensure smooth access to the matches.
