More Than 50 People Stranded in Their Homes at Lashibi Due to Blocked Roads

About 50 people, including children, have been trapped in their homes in Lashibi for several weeks. They are unable to leave because the paths inside and outside their houses are blocked. The trouble started when a sudden and heavy downpour caused a large wall to collapse overnight, cutting off their exit routes.

This unfortunate situation has persisted for weeks, drawing the attention of the media. During interviews, it was revealed that some neighbors had built a concrete wall on a public road, blocking a part of it.

A lady pastor, Mrs. Mary Owusuaa, who attends the Africa Faith Tabernacle church founded by “Odifo Nkansah,” spoke with the media about the issue. She expressed her disappointment, stating that the neighbors had illegally encroached on the public road, cutting off access to their homes. She is now seeking government intervention.

Mrs. Owusuaa explained that they legally own the land, complete with original site plans that show where the roads are located. They are fully aware of their right to access their property, yet the fence wall was built illegally. Despite their appeals for a pathway, nothing has been done.

Mrs. Owusuaa also emphasized that they have no conflict with the neighbors who erected the walls. She thought they had a good understanding and shared a peaceful, loving relationship. However, she noted that sometimes, people overlook the deep and abundant love that surrounds them, focusing instead on their own interests.

“This is not fair. We are human beings, and our welfare should matter to both the people and the government,” she lamented. “When it rains heavily, we are trapped inside, making life very uncomfortable. I believe someone wants us to sell our land to them, but that will not happen. We have nowhere else to go,” she added.

They are now urgently seeking the intervention of the National Disaster Management Organization, the Tema West Municipal Assembly, the government, and local chiefs. They are frustrated and need immediate help to unblock the paths to their homes.
