Mohamed Diomande, originally from Ivory Coast, has opted to delay his decision to join Ghana’s national team for their upcoming matches against Nigeria and Uganda, citing the need for more time to consider his international future.
The midfielder previously played for the Right to Dream academy in Ghana before moving to Europe to join FC Nordsjaelland, has been caught in a dilemma regarding his international allegiance.
Despite being selected for Ghana’s squad for the March international window, the 22-year-old midfielder has also received a call-up to Ivory Coast’s U-23 team.
In response to Ghana’s invitation, Diomande informed the Black Stars technical team that he requires additional time to weigh his options.
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity through a statement on Instagram, clarifying that he’s been in direct communication with the Ghanaian manager regarding his decision.
Sources close to the Ghanaian national team revealed that Diomande was expected to join the team’s camp in Marrakech on Thursday ahead of their match against Nigeria. However, his decision to delay has left his participation uncertain.
The Ivorian football federation has reportedly reached out to Diomande in an attempt to convince him to represent Ivory Coast, especially since he has yet to earn a senior national team cap with Ghana.
With Ghana set to face Nigeria on March 22 followed by a match against Uganda, both fixtures taking place in Morocco, Diomande’s final decision remains eagerly anticipated by both nations.
