Mobile money transactions soared to GH¢3.6 trillion in the first ten months of 2025, according to the latest Economic and Financial Data from the Bank of Ghana. This figure, covering transactions from January to October, reflects reports submitted by telecom operators.
The data reveals strong month-to-month growth, with transaction values climbing from GH¢406 billion in September to GH¢436 billion in October alone.
Comparing year-on-year performance, transactions in the same period of 2024 totalled GH¢2.368 trillion, while the figure for 2023 was GH¢1.367 trillion, highlighting a remarkable increase over the past two years.
Industry experts attribute this growth to a rising number of individuals using mobile money for payments, alongside intensified efforts by the Bank of Ghana and commercial banks to push a cashless economy. More businesses are also accepting mobile money, boosting its adoption.
As of October 2025, there were 79.1 million registered mobile money accounts, with 25.3 million actively in use. The sector supports nearly 949,000 registered agents and recorded a total of 893 million transactions in the first ten months. Mobile money interoperability also saw GH¢40 billion transferred across platforms during this period.
