Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has accused the opposition of attempting to demonize and discredit the leadership of National Security operations led by Jakpa.
Gbande’s remarks come in response to a press conference held by the Minority, in which they raised concerns about recent security operations.
Speaking on the issue, Gbande stated that the Minority’s criticisms were not rooted in genuine concerns but rather in fear of Jakpa’s decisive actions.
“They are just afraid of him. They just want to bastardize him, demonize him, and not look at the substance of what he is doing,” he asserted.
He further questioned whether the Minority would accept similar scrutiny if they were in charge of national security operations.
“If they are the ones leading it, will they be happy? These are the people who look down on others. That is the mentality of the people in the Minority. They look down on others,” Gbande emphasized.
His comments also touched on the allegations made by Minority Leader, Hon. Afenyo-Markin, regarding the conduct of security officers during operations. Afenyo-Markin had reportedly suggested that some officers engaged in unlawful activities, including the alleged theft of GHS 10,000 from the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Addison.
Deputy Director of Operations at the presidnecy dismissed these allegations, describing them as baseless and an insult to the integrity of security personnel.
“Even for the Minority Leader to believe that soldiers and police officers who were on lawful duties are criminals, that they are hungry people who stole GHS 10,000, is disrespectful and demeaning. Nobody in the NPP should support such an unguided mentality,” he stated.
In defending Jakpa, Gbande questioned the allegations leveled against him, insisting that his actions were in line with the law.
“Which crime has Jakpa committed? The name Jakpa is the one they are afraid of. He is going to be there. A thief cannot determine how he should be handled. Jakpa is the one who will go after all of them. They can go and burn the sea,” he declared.
Gbande cautioned against fleeing the country, stating that any person found guilty of wrongdoing would be held accountable. “If they run away, we will bring them back. Anybody who runs away will not participate in the 2028 elections unless they are not in this country. They should stay here and face the law if they think they haven’t done something wrong. We will arrest anybody who has committed a crime in this country,” he warned.
Deputy Director of Operations at the presidency, Mustapha Gbande underscored that any changes to the operational strategy of national security would be determined solely by the President, not the Minority.
“Let us all stay here. Let nobody run away. It will only take the President to decide whether to change the modus operandi of National Security or otherwise. It doesn’t have to take the Minority to decide. They should keep quiet and face the law,” he stressed.
