Minority Should Focus on Bringing Ofori-Atta Back Before Criticising Government – Abraham Koomson

TEMA, Ghana, 21 March: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson, has urged the government to remain focused on its agenda and not be distracted by what he describes as “noise” from the Minority in Parliament.

According to him, the Minority’s actions appear aimed at obstructing the work of government, and should not be allowed to derail efforts to improve the country’s economic situation.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, March 21, Mr. Koomson argued that the Minority should prioritise efforts to bring former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, back to Ghana to account for his tenure.

He questioned why Mr. Ofori-Atta has not returned to the country to respond to issues surrounding his time in office, especially given the current economic challenges.

Mr. Koomson noted that previous finance ministers remained in the country to account for their stewardship and wondered why the former minister appears reluctant to do the same if he has nothing to hide.

He further suggested that the Minority’s moral authority to criticise the current government is weakened if they are unable to ensure the return of Mr. Ofori-Atta to face accountability.

The GFL Secretary-General also called on the government to explore all legal avenues, including the possibility of trying the former minister in absentia if he fails to return.

He concluded by urging the government to stay committed to its development agenda and not allow opposition criticism to distract it from delivering improved outcomes for Ghanaians.
