The Chairman of the special committee investigating the recent vetting chaos, Emmanuel Bedzrah, has clarified that the decision to suspend public hearings was influenced by the Minority in Parliament and not Speaker Alban Bagbin.
His comments come after the committee indefinitely suspended its proceedings on Wednesday, February 5, a move that sparked controversy and speculation about external influence over the investigation.
Initially, Bedzrah had stated that the suspension was based on directives from the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, who had indicated that Speaker Bagbin would provide further guidance on the matter.
However, speaking to Ahotor News, the committee chairman has now revealed that it was, in fact, the Minority that played a decisive role in halting the probe.
“The decision to suspend the public hearing was not solely at the directive of the Speaker, as initially assumed.
The Minority had strong reservations about how the proceedings were unfolding and pushed for the suspension to reassess the process,” Bedzrah explained.
This revelation has added a new dimension to the debate surrounding the investigation, as critics question whether political interests are overshadowing efforts to ensure accountability in the vetting process.
