Minority Leader Apologizes to Clerk of Parliament’s Appointments Committee Over Bias Allegations

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has formally apologized to Mrs. Gifty Gobah, the Clerk of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, after previously accusing her of bias and partisanship during a heated vetting session.

Tensions flared during the vetting process when Afenyo-Markin, amid chaos and disagreements, questioned the neutrality of Mrs. Gobah, alleging that her conduct favored one side of the political divide.

His remarks sparked controversy, drawing concerns from both sides of the House about fairness and decorum in parliamentary proceedings.

However, during a debate on the floor of Parliament last night, the Minority Leader retracted his accusations and extended an unreserved apology to the Clerk, acknowledging that his earlier remarks were made in the heat of the moment.

“I deeply regret my comments and any distress they may have caused Mrs. Gobah. Upon reflection, I recognize the importance of upholding mutual respect and decorum in our parliamentary engagements,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
