The Minority caucus in Ghana’s Parliament is slamming the Majority caucus for its dismal attendance record, which led to a lack of quorum and the suspension of parliamentary business on March 7, 2025 ¹. With only a fraction of the required 91 Members of Parliament present, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor was forced to bring the session to a halt.
Kwadaso MP Professor Kingsley Nyarko expressed his frustration and disappointment, stating that the NDC’s inability to get its members to show up for parliamentary duties is embarrassing, despite their claims of being the “super majority”. Nyarko emphasized that Ghanaians expect their elected representatives to take the business of the House seriously and meet their needs and aspirations.
The Minority caucus’s concerns highlight the persistent issue of absenteeism, which undermines parliamentary efficiency and delays critical decision-making. This incident has sparked criticism from the Minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who questioned the Majority caucus’s commitment to parliamentary duties.
