Ministry Of Sports & Recreation Bars Ghana Swimming Association From International Competitions

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has issued an official statement regarding the ongoing leadership crisis in the Ghana Swimming Association.

In a strongly worded release dated 30th April 2026, the Ministry has firmly reiterated that the Withdrawal of Recognition imposed by the National Sports Authority on the erstwhile Ghana Swimming Association remains lawful, active, and has not been rescinded in any way.
The Ministry wishes to caution all officials and representatives of the erstwhile Ghana Swimming Association to immediately stop parading themselves as legitimate leaders of Ghana Swimming.

It has made it explicitly clear that it does not recognize any congress, elections, or decisions taken by the current leadership of the GSA, as these were conducted in clear violation of the Association’s Constitution and without proper consultation with the Ministry and the National Sports Authority.

As a result, the Ghana Swimming Association and its Executive Council are barred from representing the country or organizing any Ghanaian team for local or international aquatics competitions. This directive directly impacts Ghana’s planned participation in the upcoming African Aquatics Swimming Championships in Algeria, as well as all other forthcoming international swimming events.

The Ministry has further emphasized its full support for the National Sports Authority’s demand for full accountability from the erstwhile leadership, including the immediate submission of properly audited accounts.

It has also formally communicated with World Aquatics, requesting the appointment of a Stabilization Committee to oversee swimming activities in Ghana and to facilitate the conduct of credible, free, fair, and transparent elections in full compliance with the GSA Constitution.
This decisive action by the Ministry is aimed at restoring good governance, protecting the interests of Ghanaian swimmers, and safeguarding the future of the sport in the country.
All stakeholders, including swimming clubs, coaches, athletes, and the general public, are hereby advised to take due note of this official position.
