Mike Ezuruonye Stresses Importance of Local Language, Vows His Children Will Speak Their Dialect Fluently

Nollywood star Mike Ezuruonye has shared a heartfelt reflection on the importance of preserving one’s cultural roots through language, revealing how his own childhood shaped his approach to parenting today.

In a recent interview, Mike recounted how he struggled to speak his local dialect as a child. “We had house helps who spoke only English, so that was what I learned,” he explained. Recognizing the gap, his father brought in a house help from the village to teach him the language, but even then, learning it wasn’t easy.

To ensure he truly grasped his roots, Mike’s father would send him back to the village during holidays to stay with relatives and immerse himself in the language and culture. “That was how I finally learned my dialect,” Mike shared.

Now a father himself, the actor has made it a priority that his own children speak their local language perfectly.

“Our language is part of who we are, and it should never be forgotten,” he emphasized, highlighting his belief that language carries culture, identity, and heritage.
