
The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has expressed strong support for the renewed commitment of Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, in the fight against illegal mining.
The coalition, which has been at the forefront of efforts to curb the devastating effects of galamsey, has welcomed the minister’s stance, emphasizing that his unwavering resolve is crucial in safeguarding the nation’s environment and water bodies.
Speaking to Ahotor News, the convener of the coalition, Dr. Kenneth Ashiegbey, commended the minister’s firm position, stating that tackling illegal mining requires relentless enforcement of laws, political will, and collaboration among all stakeholders.
He urged the government to complement the minister’s efforts by providing the necessary resources to law enforcement agencies and ensuring that those who flout mining regulations face strict penalties.
Dr. Ashiegbey also called on the media and civil society organizations to continue amplifying the dangers of illegal mining, stressing that public awareness and sustained advocacy are key to winning the battle against galamsey.
