Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have been eliminated from the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after a 4-1 aggregate defeat to five-time African champions TP Mazembe. The Tarkwa-based side’s continental campaign ended on Saturday, 12 September 2026, when they lost 3-1 in the second-leg preliminary-round tie at Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi, having already fallen 1-0 in the first meeting at the TnA Stadium.
Medeama travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo needing to overturn a slender deficit after substitute Lise Nyembo Ntumba struck late in the first leg to give Mazembe a precious away victory. The Ghanaian champions could not find the required response on the road. Patrick Mwanungulu opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Kazema Baso added a second eight minutes later, leaving Medeama with a mountain to climb before half-time. Mwanungulu completed his brace in the 78th minute to make it 3-0 on the night and put the tie beyond reach. Dominic Amponsah scored a late consolation in the 87th minute, but it was not enough to alter the outcome.
The result sends TP Mazembe through to the next preliminary round, where they will face Zambia’s Red Arrows FC. For Medeama, attention now turns fully to domestic football as they begin the defence of their Ghana Premier League title after an early exit from Africa’s premier club competition.
