President of Division One side New Adubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu has made a damning allegation against Ghanaian referee Maxwell Hanson describing him as a thief and corrupt in a live radio interview.
His comments followed recent commentary by Young Apostles co-owner Samuel Anim Addo who branded the infamous referee as the “man for dirt works for the Ghana Football Association” rekindling the once looked settled matter for the previous weeks.
Maxwell Hanson was subtly jibed by Accra Lions after their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Dreams FC on January 5, 2025 at the Tuba Astro Turf over what they termed as ”scandal” officiating.
Dreams FC hit back at Accra Lions indicating that they were “okay” by the referee’s performance on the day and as such Accra Lions should not discredit their hard fought win.
On Friday Morning, responding to questions on Asempa FM, as monitored by AhotorSports, the outspoken football administrator, Abdul Salam Yakubu made a plain and bold allegation that Maxwell Hanson is a thief.
”That referee[Maxwell Hanson] is corrupt more than anyone and they [GFA] have kept him in the system. He can take me to court”, he said.
“Even our football administrators, why should we allow Anim Addo to suffer?,” he quizzed.
“The FA has kept Hanson, he is an agenda referee, everybody knows what I am talking about,” he emphasized.
“I know him from Tema officiating in Division Two, he has been an agenda referee from Division Two to Division One.” He concluded.
Maxwell Hanson has already sued Young Apostles President, Samuel Anim Addo for defamation and he together with Ghana Football Association is yet to react to Yakubu’s comments.
