Mas-ud Didi Dramani Defends Coaching Credentials Amid Fan Growing Pressure

Mas-ud Didi Dramani, the head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, continues to staunchly defend his coaching credentials as the passionate fanbase grows increasingly vocal in their demand for the club to reclaim the Ghana Premier League title—the Phobians’ first since Samuel Boadu’s successful 2021 campaign.

Appointed in June 2025 (with the move formalized around late June or early July) on a two-year contract that runs until June 2027, Dramani succeeded previous arrangements and was chosen for his extensive experience, including his tenure as an assistant coach with Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

He played a key role in their memorable bronze-medal performance at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted on home soil, which remains a highlight in Ghanaian football history. A retired Ghana international himself, born on March 3, 1966, Dramani also brings credentials as a senior CAF instructor and coach assessor, alongside prior stints coaching the Black Queens, youth setups, Asante Kotoko, and other roles both domestically and abroad.

Under his leadership in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, Hearts of Oak have shown notable strengths, particularly in their defensive organization away from home.

The team has built one of the league’s most solid records on the road, achieving multiple victories while maintaining a low goals-conceded tally—often cited as seven in away matches earlier in the campaign.

This disciplined approach has kept them firmly in the title conversation. As of early February 2026, following Matchday 21, Hearts sit in a strong position, typically ranked third or fourth in the standings after 21 matches played.

They have accumulated 36 points from 9 wins, 9 draws, and 3 losses, with a goal difference of +8 (15 goals scored and 7 conceded). This places them level on points with teams like Aduana Stars (also 36 points) and just behind leaders Medeama SC (around 40-43 points depending on exact updates) and others in the top tier, such as Bibiani Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko.

Despite this competitive standing, recent performances have drawn criticism and amplified fan scrutiny. A string of draws, including a frustrating 0-0 stalemate against Bechem United on February 1, 2026, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, has highlighted ongoing struggles with converting possession and chances into goals.

In that match, Hearts dominated but failed to break the deadlock, extending their defensive resilience at that venue while leaving supporters yearning for greater attacking flair.

Dramani has acknowledged inconsistencies, even critiquing his side’s display in victories—like a 3-0 win over Eleven Wonders in late January 2026—where he felt the overall performance fell short of expectations despite the result.

He has also addressed tactical decisions, such as goalkeeper rotations (e.g., starting Solomon Agbasi over Benjamin Asare in certain games), and dispelled earlier rumors of potential resignation amid mid-season ups and downs.

Nevertheless, Dramani remains confident in his vision, pointing to the team’s solid foundation, defensive record, and ability to grind out results as evidence that progress is being made.

With the season still ongoing and Hearts well-placed in the top-four race, he continues to emphasize patience and belief, drawing on his background to argue that he is equipped to guide the club back to championship glory amid the high expectations that come with managing one of Ghana’s biggest institutions.
