Martha Ankomah Calls for Stronger Protection of Ghana’s Movie Industry After Award Recognition

Award-winning Ghanaian actress Martha Ankomah has expressed gratitude to God, her fans, family, and industry stakeholders after receiving a prestigious recognition, while also using the moment to advocate for stronger protection of Ghana’s film industry.

In an emotional acceptance message, Martha Ankomah thanked God Almighty for blessing her with the talent that has brought her success throughout her acting career. She also extended her appreciation to the awarding academy for recognising her contributions to the movie industry.

The actress paid special tribute to filmmaker Frank Rajah Arase, director of Virgin of the Throne, for allowing her to be part of the production and trusting her with a significant role.

Martha also acknowledged the unwavering support of her fans, describing their love, prayers, and encouragement as a major source of strength throughout her journey in the entertainment industry.

Beyond the celebration, the actress raised concerns about the unauthorised broadcasting of movies by some television stations.

She appealed to media houses that air films without proper authorisation or compensation to reconsider their actions, stressing that movie production requires substantial investments of time, creativity, effort, and financial resources.

According to her, the practice threatens the growth and sustainability of Ghana’s film industry, which serves as a source of employment for many people both on and off screen.

She further called on industry stakeholders, individuals, and the government to support the creation of structures and policies that will help revive and strengthen the local movie sector.

Martha Ankomah concluded by thanking her family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who has supported her career from her early days on Fun World to her current success.

She expressed confidence that, with God’s grace, greater achievements lie ahead for both her and the Ghanaian movie industry.
