Maritime Researcher Nana Yaw Abbrampa Questions Kennedy Agyapong and Bawumia’s Political Future.

Port Operations Assistant and maritime researcher Nana Yaw Abbrampa has questioned the political viability of Kennedy Agyapong and former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 elections, arguing that both leading figures of the New Patriotic Party currently lack the political appeal, credibility, and leadership qualities needed to return the party to power.

Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 FM Saturday political talk show, Yepe Ahunu, during a panel discussion hosted by Nana Dogbe, Abbrampa openly questioned the leadership qualities, consistency, and electability of the two leading NPP figures.

According to him, although Kennedy Agyapong remains his mentor in business, the outspoken politician failed to take advantage of key opportunities to establish himself as a serious presidential contender within the NPP during the 2016 and 2020 primaries.

He noted that when Kennedy eventually contested the party’s presidential race ahead of the 2024 elections, the outcome failed to meet the expectations of many supporters and exposed cracks within his political support base.

Abbrampa further alleged that Kennedy Agyapong later became dissatisfied with the NPP leadership after feeling unappreciated despite his financial contributions and years of support to the party.

Having worked closely with the former Assin Central MP for nearly 20 years, the maritime researcher described him as politically unpredictable and not always straightforward in his dealings.

He also referenced comments reportedly made by Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of GoldBod, suggesting that Kennedy Agyapong might not have enjoyed the same prominence if he belonged to another political party.

Turning to Dr. Bawumia, Abbrampa accused the former Vice President of failing to inspire confidence among many Ghanaians despite enjoying enormous political opportunities within government.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s promises and political messaging failed to resonate with voters, contributing significantly to the NPP’s current political challenges.

He argued that while Kennedy Agyapong allegedly created internal divisions within the party, Dr. Bawumia weakened the NPP’s national image during the party’s period in government.

Abbrampa maintained that both politicians are presently “unmarketable” and would struggle to defeat a strong candidate from the National Democratic Congress in the next general elections.

He further warned that the NPP could face deeper internal divisions and political betrayal if the party fails to properly manage its future leadership transition and presidential primaries.

Commenting on rumours surrounding a political movement known as “The Base,” Abbrampa alleged that Kennedy Agyapong initially denied any connection to the group before later reports suggested otherwise, raising concerns about consistency and credibility.

Port Operations Assistant and maritime researcher Nana Yaw Abbrampa concluded by stressing that Ghana’s political environment now demands leaders with credibility, honesty, strategic vision, and strong leadership qualities rather than sympathy politics or emotional loyalty to political personalities.
