The leadership of President John Dramani Mahama within the period of four months has been commended for upholding the dignity of the presidency and demonstrating excellent governance in Ghana’s democratic journey.
Despite some of the targets being long-term in nature, President Mahama successfully delivered on the ambitious goals outlined in his 120-day manifesto promise. This achievement has been lauded as a testament to his commitment to effective leadership and national development. Ghanaians are encouraged to rally behind the president to sustain peace and progress in the country.
Mensah Thompson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), made these remarks during an interview on Adekyee Mu Nsem, a morning show on Ahotor FM 92.3, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.
According to Mr. Thompson, former President Mahama distinguished himself by redefining the policy direction and institutional structures of the country, especially amid the economic challenges inherited from the previous New Patriotic Party administration.
He noted that key policy frameworks were put in place to stabilize the economy, curb inflation, and strengthen the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar. Additionally, Mr. Thompson praised Mahama’s efforts to bring integrity and accountability to governance, contrasting it with what he described as high-profile corruption cases under the 2017 administration.
He further emphasized the importance of fast-tracking investigations into high-profile corruption cases, including those uncovered through the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) fact-finding project. Specific allegations cited include issues involving the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, related to missing containers and mismanagement during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Company.
Mr. Thompson concluded by highlighting that President Mahama’s respect for democratic principles was evident in his administration’s tolerance of peaceful protests by the opposition without police interference—a clear sign of strong, principled leadership committed to constitutional democracy.
