Mahama Warns Against NPP Re-Election, Calls for Change in December Polls

National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to resist re-electing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December’s election, warning that doing so would effectively hand President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo an “unofficial third term.”

Addressing supporters in Assin Fosu as part of his Central Regional tour, Mr. Mahama underscored the urgent need for change, given Ghana’s current economic difficulties and social challenges under the NPP administration.

John Mahama accused the NPP of attempting to shield itself from accountability for what he described as widespread corruption, state capture, and impunity by promoting Dr. Bawumia as a successor.

According to him, voting for Bawumia is essentially an endorsement of Akufo-Addo’s policies, which he argues have led to economic decline and weakened governance.

“Let’s not make the mistake of voting for the NPP. As I’ve said before, a vote for Bawumia is a vote for Akufo-Addo’s third term,” Mr. Mahama emphasized, expressing confidence that the 2024 elections provide the perfect chance for Ghanaians to reclaim their country from poor governance.

While acknowledging that his own administration faced challenges, John Mahama contended that conditions were still better than those seen under the NPP.

He highlighted the importance of experienced leadership during these trying times, asserting that his years in Ghanaian politics and government uniquely qualify him to guide the nation.

“Things weren’t perfect under my presidency, but they were far better than what we’re experiencing now,” he stated. “Right now, Ghana needs an experienced leader, and I can confidently say that no one has more experience than I do in Ghanaian politics.”

John Mahama’s appeal to voters was clear: voters should consider their living conditions and support the NDC in restoring stability, accountability, and development to Ghana.
