Mahama Urges Ghanaians to See 2024 Election as Turning Point for Change

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to view this year’s election as a pivotal moment in Ghana’s history—an opportunity for what he terms a “second independence.”

During a recent speech in Hemang Lower Denkyira, part of his Central Regional campaign tour, John Mahama emphasized that widespread discontent with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reached even within its own ranks.

“Many Ghanaians, including loyal members of the NPP, have lost faith in the current administration and want to see a change,” he asserted, noting that the dissatisfaction isn’t just among opposition supporters but is also evident among those who once stood firmly behind the NPP.

He acknowledged that while his own administration had its shortcomings, he believes the country’s condition has worsened significantly under the NPP.

“Ghana wasn’t perfect when I was president, but it was certainly better than what we are witnessing now,” he remarked.

Mr. Mahama urged voters to consider the election as a chance to steer the country back on course, expressing his vision for a return to stability and prosperity.

Lamenting the current state of the nation, Mahama stated,

“This is not the Ghana we envisioned, the one I was entrusted to help build and grow. Today, we see struggling businesses, hardship across communities, and even our once-thriving cocoa industry faltering.”

He attributed these issues to what he described as the NPP’s deviation from Ghana’s developmental goals, leaving a trail of disillusionment among the people.

He appealed specifically to disillusioned NPP members, encouraging them to consider voting for the NDC as a way to restore the nation’s integrity and prosperity.

“Together, we can bring Ghana back to its past glories,” he concluded, pledging that an NDC government would prioritize a reset for the country, emphasizing economic revival, job creation, and renewed support for critical sectors like cocoa.
