Mahama to establish national constitutional review validation conference

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, aimed at moving forward the stalled constitutional review process.

This initiative is part of the new NDC administration’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s justice system and ensuring judicial independence.

Speaking at the 92nd Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana at Gomoa Pomadze in Winneba in the Central region on Thursday, January 9, 2025, President Mahama emphasised the importance of justice and peace as the foundation of the nation’s aspirations.

“Justice and peace are the bedrock of our national aspirations, and as the Holy Quran reminds us, we are called to uphold justice even against ourselves…Justice must always not only be done but must be seen to be done and must be felt by all. Justice is a moral compass that must guide our every decision, every law, and every interaction in our nation,” he stated.

The President highlighted the administration’s dedication to addressing systemic inequalities within the justice system.

“To this end, the new NDC administration is resolutely committed to strengthening our justice system to ensure judicial independence and address the systemic inequalities that currently exist. I can assure you that this administration will work tirelessly to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of your status or background, is treated with dignity and afforded equal protection under the law,” he added.

To achieve these objectives, President Mahama announced the establishment of a committee to plan the National Constitutional Review Validation Conference.

“To achieve this objective of justice, we would have to move the stalled constitutional review process forward. To achieve this, I will soon establish a committee to begin the planning of a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, to achieve broad consensus on the way forward for the constitutional amendments that we have all proposed,” he declared.
