National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama has pledged that an NDC-led government will establish modern dialysis centers across Ghana to address the rising crisis of kidney disease.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Lordina Foundation Maternity and Children’s Ward in Bodom, Nkoranza North Constituency, Mr. Mahama highlighted the critical need for accessible healthcare facilities, especially for managing chronic conditions.
“Kidney disease has become a pressing issue in Ghana. Ensuring access to dialysis centers in every region will provide essential treatment within reach of all Ghanaians,” he said.
John Mahama also introduced his plan to launch the Ghana Medical Care Trust, also known as Mahama Cares, a comprehensive fund designed to support the management of chronic illnesses.
The trust would cover a range of conditions, including kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and sickle cell disease.
“This trust will be backed by both government and private funding, offering financial aid to those affected by chronic diseases and enhancing our healthcare infrastructure,” he explained.
John Mahama assured that these initiatives reflect a broader commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system and ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to quality medical care.
