John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed shock and disappointment that the current government has failed to pursue his vision of constructing a bridge over the Afram River.
The bridge, he explained, would significantly ease the challenging travel conditions to and from the Afram Plains.
Speaking to a large crowd at Kwahu during his Eastern Regional tour, Mr. Mahama recounted his determination to bring development to the region when he was President.
He emphasized that he had laid the groundwork for the bridge project, including detailed plans and blueprints, but was baffled as to why the current government had not continued the initiative.
“When I was President, I was committed to improving access to the Afram Plains, starting with a bridge across the Afram River. The plans were there, the vision was clear, yet the government that succeeded us abandoned it.” he stated.
Mr. Mahama pledged to prioritize the construction of the Afram River bridge if elected, promising a permanent solution to the frustrations and difficulties residents face when traveling.
“I know the NDC is winning this election, and I will ensure the Afram River bridge becomes a reality. This project will not only ease travel but also open up the area for economic growth and investment,” he assured.
He urged the people to reflect on their current living conditions under the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over the past eight years and make a wise decision at the ballot box.
Highlighting the NDC’s “24-Hour Economy” policy, Mr. Mahama outlined plans to transform the Kwahu enclave into a vibrant industrial hub.
He proposed the establishment of factories and businesses that would create jobs and drive economic development, particularly benefiting the youth.
“Our 24-Hour Economy policy will revitalize Kwahu, turning it into a factory zone and a centre of economic activity. Jobs will be created, and the people of Kwahu will see significant improvements in their lives,” he said confidently.
Mr. Mahama concluded by emphasizing that an NDC victory in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections is essential to ensuring these transformative projects and policies are realized.
His message resonated with the crowd who mostly will blow their vuvuzelas, sparking hope for a brighter future under an NDC government.
