Mahama Orders Dissolution of Boards of State Institutions.

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive for the immediate dissolution of boards of all statutory corporations, commissions, and councils appointed under the tenure of the immediate past Akufo-Addo administration.

The announcement was made through a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, acting spokesperson to the president and member of the parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese The directive, according to the statement, aligns with provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), which governs the orderly transfer of power during changes in government.

This move is part of broader efforts by President Mahama to restructure and reposition key state institutions to align with his administration’s policy direction and vision. The directive, however, exempts independent constitutional bodies, ensuring that institutions such as the Electoral Commission and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) maintain their statutory autonomy.

The dissolved boards and commissions are expected to be reconstituted in compliance with their enabling laws. This process, the statement added, will prioritize efficiency, inclusiveness, and meritocracy in line with President Mahama’s governance agenda.

Political analysts suggest that the move underscores the president’s intent to stamp his authority and facilitate effective governance. Stakeholders are now anticipating further announcements regarding the composition of the new boards and how they will influence the direction of the various state institutions under their oversight.
