Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has said the strategic interventions introduced by the John Dramani Mahama–led government in the energy sector are producing positive and enabling results for the country.
She explained that prior to the assumption of office by the NDC government, the energy sector was burdened with huge debts, a situation that threatened the nation with persistent power cuts and instability.

According to her, the outlook at the time was worrying and far from acceptable for a country seeking growth and industrial expansion.
Professor Opoku Agyemang made these remarks during a working visit to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, where she highlighted the decisive leadership of President John Dramani Mahama in stabilising the sector.
She noted that this is a time to commend the President for his willingness to listen, his support for expert advice, and his positive approach to implementing practical solutions.
“This government is here to advance the welfare of the country,” the Vice President stated, adding that the administration remains committed to ensuring reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for households, businesses and industry.
She also praised the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, for the efficiency and discipline he has brought to the sector, particularly in addressing legacy debts and improving financial management.
She said the minister’s leadership has strengthened confidence in the sector and improved responsiveness to long-standing challenges.
Professor Opoku Agyemang further charged the ministry to strategically review and strengthen Ghana’s energy mix, with particular emphasis on renewable energy sources. She encouraged increased investment in solar energy as part of the green transition agenda, noting that expanding renewables will not only enhance energy security but also reduce costs and support environmental sustainability.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a resilient energy sector that supports economic growth, attracts investment and aligns with global toward clean and sustainable energy development.
