Mahama Has Learned from the Past, He Won’t Repeat Mistakes – MP Fred Agbenyo Assures

Member of Parliament for Guan Constituency, Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, has expressed strong confidence in former President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power, asserting that this time, he will govern differently and more effectively.

Speaking in response to the question on what Mahama will do differently, Hon. Agbenyo emphasized that experience and hindsight will play a crucial role in shaping his leadership.

“I think that we should look at our constitution again, so that when a president exits office after serving two terms, he can contest again after some time,” Agbenyo stated. “You see, when you have the benefit of hindsight, you are better informed. You can correct your mistakes. So when given the opportunity, you are able to do things differently.”

According to Hon. Agbenyo, Mahama’s previous tenure from 2009 to 2016 was not without challenges, but having had the chance to reflect, he is now better positioned to make impactful decisions.

“Trust me, President Mahama is going to work, and a lot of people will be shocked. Because he has been there before, he understands the entire system. Like he said, ‘we are back to right the wrongs.’ As a human institution, there is no way you can say everything was perfect during his time in office. Mistakes were made, but with hindsight, he will not allow those things to happen again,” Agbenyo added.

He further stressed that Mahama is determined to leave a lasting legacy, one that will make Ghanaians acknowledge his contributions when he finally bows out of politics.

“I remember his last State of the Nation Address before exiting office in 2016 when he said, ‘posterity will be the best judge.’ I thought that would take 50 or 100 years, but by 2018, Ghanaians were already calling for his return. They wanted him back because they could point to tangible infrastructure development he undertook,” Agbenyo noted.

The Member of Parliament for Guan, Fred Kwesi Agbenyo also reiterated his belief that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the 2020 elections but faced setbacks in securing power.

“In politics and democracy, going to an election is one thing, winning an election is another, being declared the winner is different, and being sworn in as the winner is yet another. But Ghanaians quickly realized Mahama’s value, and within less than four years, they were calling for his return,” he remarked.
