Mahama Dissolves NSA Board with Immediate Effect

President John Dramani Mahama dissolved the boards of statutory state institutions, corporations, commissions and councils with immediate effect upon assuming office on 7 January 2025, in line with the Presidential Transition Act. Members appointed by the previous administration or its ministers ceased to hold office that day, excluding only independent constitutional commissions.

Management of the affected bodies was instructed to obtain clearance from the Chief of Staff before taking major decisions pending reconstitution under each entity’s enabling law. The President thanked outgoing members for their service.

This sweep covered bodies such as the National Sports Authority, whose new governing board was later inaugurated under Chairman Dr Fred Awaah with a mandate to raise sports’ contribution to GDP and expand infrastructure.

It also applied to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, a statutory corporation whose board tenure ended automatically, while its shareholding companies followed company-law processes. Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, a GNPC subsidiary focused on recovering gold from tailings, received a new board in November 2025 chaired by Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore after the Energy Minister inaugurated it on the President’s behalf to revive operations. Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited, later rebranded BOST Energies, continued under a board chaired by Professor Saint Kuttu that reported progress toward profitability.

Volta Aluminium Company Limited saw a new ten-member board inaugurated in December 2025 under Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah and charged with advancing Ghana’s aluminium value chain. Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited remained part of recapitalisation efforts for state banks.

Ghana Post Company Limited received a reconstituted board in August 2025 chaired by Petra Aba Asamoah and tasked with digital-era transformation. The Road Maintenance Trust Fund, newly established by statute, had its fifteen-member board inaugurated in December 2025 under Isaac Adjei Mensah to oversee more accountable nationwide road spending.

TDC Ghana Limited featured among consistently profitable specified entities in subsequent state-ownership reporting. These reconstitutions formed part of the administration’s broader reset of state-owned enterprises after the political transition.
