
President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the killing of a soldier in Bawku, describing it as a tragic and unacceptable act of violence.
Speaking during his Thank You Tour in the Upper East Region, Mahama called for calm and urged security agencies to ensure justice is served without resorting to excessive force.
While denouncing the soldier’s killing, Mahama also criticized the military’s response, condemning reports of alleged assaults and abuse of residents in Bawku following the incident.
He stressed that retaliatory actions by the military only deepen tensions and worsen the plight of innocent civilians caught in the conflict.
“Our security forces must uphold professionalism and the rule of law. The people of Bawku deserve peace, not further brutality,” Mahama stated.
president called on the government to take swift measures to de-escalate tensions in the area and ensure that both the perpetrators of the soldier’s killing and those responsible for human rights violations are held accountable.
He urged for dialogue, conflict resolution, and a long-term peace strategy to prevent further violence in Bawku.
