Real Madrid made light work of fellow La Liga competitors Real Mallorca on Thursday night in the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to book a date with Barcelona in the finals on Sunday.
Real Madrid returned for the second half strongly after a barren first half to put three unanswered goals against Mallorca who were impressive in the opening forty-five minutes.
Jude Bellingham’s opener close to the hour mark was all that seperated the two teams until the 90th minute, but two stoppage time goals from Rodrygo and an own goal improved Real Madrid’s scoreline.
The final of the Spanish Super Cup will take place with a Clásico as Real Madrid take on FC Barcelona, again at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, for the 42nd title in the competition’s history.
Baracelona had beaten Athletic Bilbao in the other semifinal match 2-0 thanks to goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal to propel the Catalans into the finals.
The game will be the ninth time that it is a Clásico, with Real Madrid having won seven and lost two, in 2011/12 and 2022/23.
If Los Blancos win, it will be their 14th time winning the trophy for the club’s trophy cabinet, and it will be the third title secured this season after the UEFA European Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The game will take place on Sunday, January 12th, at 10pm local time, equivalent to 8pm in Spanish time and 2pm Eastern Time.
