The Member of Parliament for Madina, Lawyer Xavier Sosu has commenced a project to ensure life becomes better for basic schools within his constituency
This project dubbed ‘Water for all basic school project” is in line with his commitment to his human development agenda and is aimed at providing portable water for all basic schools in his constituency
The project commenced on Monday, August 1 2022, with inauguration of two mechanized boreholes in the Presec Cluster of schools, made up of five (5) Basic schools, with the Project intended to serve a student population of 4,123.
The two mechanized boreholes were Sponsored by Wahat Salam and Famille Boutaleb, with financial support from the Nouvelle Optique in France, and supervised in Ghana by the Abdul Aziz Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation Ghana represented by Alhaji Abdul Mumeen.
A similar borehole has been completed at Babayara Basic School and yet to be mechanized by Galaxy International.
Hon. Sosu has also reached out to other projects such as Race for Aid which has also committed to drill and mechanize boreholes in 10 of the outstanding 41 basic schools within the MADINA La-NKWANTANANG Municipality.
The goal of the project is to achieve SDG 6 as portable water is made available to students to promote Hygiene and welfare for all students.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Kean Adjei Appiah was grateful for the project and asked that more partners join to ensure water is made available to children across the municipality. He bemoaned the situation where there are toilets in schools without water which presents threat of disease outbreak in schools and some schools having to resort to purchasing water on weekly basis of not less than Ghc100 which adds to the cost of running the schools.
The children and teachers were grateful for the project and expressed their appreciation to the MP and sponsors of the Project.
