Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban following his dismissal during the 2-2 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby.
The ban, issued by the Football Association (FA), stems from Slot’s use of “offensive, insulting, or abusive language” towards referee Michael Oliver.
The incident occurred at the end of the match, with Slot visibly frustrated with Oliver’s decisions throughout the game. The Liverpool coach’s red card was one of four handed out during the match, with players from both teams also receiving their marching orders.
As a result of the ban, Slot will miss Liverpool’s upcoming matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa.
”Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language. He is handed a two-match touchline ban as a result,”-PL statement said.
The Reds will need to navigate these crucial fixtures without their head coach’s guidance from the touchline.
The ban comes at a critical juncture in Liverpool’s season, with the club chasing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Slot’s absence from the touchline will undoubtedly be felt, and the club will need to rally behind their coaching staff to secure vital wins in his absence.
While Liverpool has not officially commented on the ban, it is understood that Slot is disappointed but accepts the decision. The Dutch coach will now focus on preparing his team for the upcoming matches, albeit from a distance.
